Kazakhstan-focused exploration firm Max Petroleum says it has found two ‘excellent’ oil finds during the latest appraisal of the Uytas Field.
The company, drilling its second appraisal well on the field, found a total of 26m of net oil in reservoirs.
The Zhanros rig found an 11m pay in the Cretaceous reservoir, similar to previous wells in the field, along with a further 15m column in a Jurassic reservoir.
“Reservoir quality in both the Cretaceous and Jurassic sections is excellent, with average porosities of 35%,” the company said in a statement.
Logs on an Albian reservoir encountered in the second well were inconclusive, with Max Petroleum now looking to complete drilling and start test production.
Max also confirmed that Zhanros had secured the tender for a third rig, which would complete the remaining 10 wells on the Uytas appraisal project.
