Lundin Petroleum has begin drilling work on an exploration well on its Gohta prospect in the Barents Sea, the Swedish independent oil and gas company announced.
Exploration well 7120/1-3, off Norway, is expected to find hydrocarbons in the Permian and Triassic reservoirs, and the company estimates extraction of a total of 226million barrels of oil equivalent.
The planned total depth is 2,429 metres below mean sea level with the Transocean Arctic rig conducting the drilling work, which is expected to take aroud 65 days.
Lundin Petroleum is the operator of the licence for the site, with a 40% stake, alongside partners Det norske oljeselskap (40%) and Noreco Norway (20%).
