Construction tenders for Abu Dhabi’s lucrative Bab sour gas field could be offered as early as 2015 as the Emirate looks to start production by the end of the decade.
The massive gas field, part of a $40million investment into Abu Dhabi’s oil and gas sector by ADNOC, with formerly rich gas supplies at risk of being exhausted.
The new facility, which will be developed by Shell after agreeing a $10billion deal with ADNOC last month, will add more than 500million cubic feet of gas to the Emirate’s supplies.
“Very soon we will select a consultant to help us with the pre-feed and feed contracts,” ADNOC gas director general Mohammed Sahoo Al Suwaidi told The National.
“The target is to award [contracts] in two to three years.”
