ConocoPhillips has made a hydrocarbons discovery at a high risk prospect on the edge of the North Sea.
Premier Oil, which was partnered with the US energy giant, revealed the 23/22b-6Z exploration well on the Lacewing prospect had found a gas column of greater than 100ft.
ConocoPhillips, which operates the prospect after farming into the venture, drilled to a total depth of 14,370 feet. Premier retains a 20% stake on the block, with BG the other partner.
The well has now been plugged, with post-evaluation work underway to determine if it is a commercially viable venture.
