Mapping of possible new oil fields in the eastern Barents Sea has resumed after more than seven months.
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate confirmed it had started 2D seismic data work on the northeastern part of the sea for the first time since 2012.
The region has seen renewed interest following recent major discoveries and the end of a border dispute with Russia.
The Artemis Atlantic seismic vessel, operated by Dolphin Geophysical, is conducting the surveys as the NPD begins work on gathering data on new petroleum resources in the region.
The directorate is the only group allowed to acquire seismic data in new areas not previously opened for activity.
