An offshore training facility has been helping Commonweath Games gold medalist Hannah Miley prepare for her title defence in Glasgow next year.
The Aberdeenshire swimmer has been involved in an altitude training trial at the National Hyberbaric Centre as part of her preparations for next year’s Commonwealth Games.
Miley, who took gold at the 400m individual medley in 2010, and finished 5th in the 2012 Olympics, joined elite athletes in a study looking at the impact of hypobaric and hyperbaric exposure.
The chambers at the National Hyperbaric Centre, in Aberdeen, are used for subsea testing and training as they can simulate depths of 8000m below sea level, but can also simulate heights of 20,000m for altitude training and acclimatising..
“We were very excited to have Hannah Miley contact us regarding the altitude trials,” said Mike McDonald, Business Development manager at NHC.
“We were delighted to accommodate a local superstar and are always keen to consider new and innovative ways of using the facilities we have.”
