Tullow Oil has come up dry in its efforts to find oil off the coast of Mozambique.
The company’s second deepwater exploration well in the Area 2 block off the country’s coast had been looking for hydrocarbons after finding good quality sandstone.
However, despite drilling to 3,333m in water depths of 1,534, it failed to find any hydrocarbons.
THe well, drilled by the Discoverer Americas, has now been plugged and abandoned.
“Having encountered hydrocarbons with the Cachalote-1 well, we have acquired valuable information from the Buzio-1 dry hole,” said Tullow exploration director Angus McCoss.
“We will now combine the data from both offshore Mozambique wells with our extensive seismic in this licence area and determine our next steps.”
Tullow have a 25% stake in the field, which is operated by Statoil, along with partners INPEX and ENH.
