Hundreds of new jobs are being created in Aberdeen by Aker Solutions.
The energy service giant will announce plans to fill 400 new engineering and technical posts later today.
The firm – which has just filled the last of 500 new positions it announced last year – hopes to fill the positions by the end of 2015.
It will take the Aker’s north-east workforce to more than 3,600 and make the company one of the biggest employers in the region.
The announcement comes as the world’s biggest oil and gas firms gather in Aberdeen today for the Offshore Europe exhibition.
The sold-out Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre will host more than 1,500 organisations between now and Friday, featuring the complete supply chain of companies including operators, drilling contractors and oilfield service companies.
Twenty-seven new graduates joined Aker Solutions in Aberdeen this morning, marking the completion of a plan from May 2012 to increase the workforce to more than 3,200 employees from 2,700.
The company will continue its growth strategy with the 400 new jobs, and begin recruiting immediately.
“Recent contract wins across the Aberdeen business and a substantial order book in our subsea division mean that we will continue to add to our employee base over the next two years,” said Mike Forbes, managing director of the company’s Maintenance, Modifications and Operations (MMO) business in the UK.
“Aker Solutions has worked in Aberdeen since 1978 and we remain committed to the local area. As we grow, it is vital we keep a sharp focus on attracting, retaining and developing our staff.”
Aker Solutions, a global oil-services provider, has more than 28,000 employees in more than 30 countries.
The company has worked to secure the right competency and has previously recruited more than 100 ex-Forces personnel from across the Army, Navy and RAF.
In addition, the company consistently invests in the next generation through its apprentice and graduate programmes, with more than 50 graduates and apprentices being recruited into its engineering and business programmes in 2013.
Last month the firm announced it had won work on Statoil’s huge Mariner field in the UK North Sea
Aker said it would provide drilling equipment for the production platform at the £4.7billion development, which is thought to hold up to 400million barrels of oil.
