Tekmar Energy has been awarded a cable protection contract for the Westermost Rough Offshore Wind Farm by project developer DONG Energy.
The Durham-based cable protection company will provide bespoke coverings to cables for the 35-turbine windfarm, with the construction expected to start in the first half of next year.
Westermost Rough will cover an area of 35 sq km off the coast of East Yorkshire and generate 210MW of electricity as the first wind farm in the world to use Siemens 6MW turbines on a commercial scale.
“The Westermost Rough project will play an important role in reducing CO2 emissions and contribute towards the UK achieving its targets of electricity generation from renewable energy schemes,” said James Richie, Tekmar chief executive.
“This is a significant project for us to be involved in and the fifth time we have worked with DONG Energy.”
