US onshore exploration firm Daybreak says it has made an oil find in its first well in Kentucky.
The Gerald Grove H-1 well, on the state’s Twin Bottoms field, was drilled to 4,036ft and discovered 2,588 of oil-bearing sandstone.
Daybreak plans to drill five more wells on the site before the end of the year after the discovery, which has been cased for production.
“We expect the initial production rates in the Kentucky wells to be significantly higher than the California wells, which will take our cash flow to a new level,” said chief executive James Westmoreland.
