Start-up on the giant Breagh North Sea gas field will be delayed by another month, it has emerged.
The RWE Dea-operated field was due to start producing first gas this month, but it will not now begin until mid-October, project partner Sterling Resources said.
Leaks at the Teeside processing plant which will handle the supplies had already delayed the project, but now remedial work is needed on three small heat exchangers, which was discovered during the initial start-up on the field.
One will need to be removed and repaired, causing the latest delay.
“The start-up of the Breagh gas field continues to be a challenging and frustrating process for Sterling,” said chief operating officer John Rapach.
“Previous mechanical problems with the gas-to-gas exchangers, which delayed start-up over the summer, have now been fully resolved.
“We continue to work with operator RWE Dea UK to achieve a safe and sustainable start-up of the Breagh field as expeditiously as possible.”
Phase one of the field is expected to produce around 102million cu.ft of gas a day, reaching 112million by next year.
