Wintershall to turn its attention to Asha East in the North Sea after being left disappointed by is drilling on the Amol prospect.
Drilling by the Borgland Dolphin semi-submersible had been focused on the Asha oil and gas discovery, which had been estimated to have between 30million and 100million barrels of oil equivalent.
However, partner Bridge Energy confirmed that the drilling had failed to yield positive results.
“The primary target in Amol was Åsgard (Cretaceous) sandstone with a secondary target of fractured basement,” the company said.
“Three cores have now been cut in Cretaceous and basement levels. A thin Åsgard sandstone was encountered with no reservoir quality. Oil has been sampled in the basement, but no drill stem test will be carried out due to poor observed reservoir properties.”
Work will now begin on drilling the Asha East well, the company added.
