The generator of a large wind turbine north of St Cyrus caught fire.
Fire crews from Laurencekirk and Montrose arrived on the scene at 2.40pm.
No fire service equipment was used to put out the fire.
It was extinguished after the electricity was isolated at 3.20pm.
Fire crews are still on the scene and are awaiting the arrival of power firm Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) who will deal with the power supply.
According to a neighbouring farm, the turbine is owned by Mains of Lauriston Farm.
He said: “The fire is out now, but it definitely damaged the turbine it a bit. I never saw it myself but heard about it.
“I have a wind turbine too and them going on fire is a concern for anybody really.”
More to follow.
