Statoil has come up dry after the latest wells on the Volve North Sea field.
The Norwegian major was looking to find additional resources on the north-western edge of the find, located in the central North Sea between Sleipner West and Sleipner East.
However, one well failed to encounter any oil finds, while a sidetrack well discovered a poor quality reservoir. Both wells proved to be aquiferous, and have been abandoned.
Earlier this year Statoil had discovered 4.4million barrels of recoverable oil on the field, which it partners with Total and ExxonMobil, on top of an earlier find of up to 9.4million barrels.
