The first exploration well in the Barents Sea 529 licence was drilled dry, reported the operator Eni Norge AS.
The objective of the wildcat well 7016/2-1 was to prove reserves in Eocene and Paleocene reservoirs in the Sotbakken Group.
Drilled to a vertical depth of 4025 metres below the sea surface, this was the first deepwater well in the Barents Sea.
The well will now be plugged and abandoned as Eni’s focus moves to production licence 229 to drill production wells on its Goliat field.
