An energy course graduate has taken one step closer to realise their dream of becoming an underwater welder – and the fact that she is a girl is not stopping her.
Jade Anderson, a welder apprentice at Rigmar Fabrications, discovered her passion for the industry when she put her career’s future in the hands of fate.
“I picked up the college book and flicked through it – and whatever I landed on I was going to do,” Jade said.
“Luckily enough I landed on fabrication and welding at college and I have a total passion for it. I love it.”
Despite being Rigmar’s first female welder apprentice, she said she could not have wished for a better job.
“As they would say – I’m one of the lads. There’s no discrimination against us… It’s great.”
To find out what opportunities the energy industry has on offer, pick up our Energy Graduate supplement – with The Press and Journal on Monday, October 28.
