Filipino authorities say next of kin have been informed after a worker fell overboard from a platform in the Gulf of Mexico.
A major search and rescue operation was launched by the US coast guard yesterday after Peter Voces fell from a platform 55km off the Louisiana coast.
Two helicopters and two planes were launched in the hunt for the 38-year-old Filipino welder, who was working for Offshore Specialty Fabricators, along with a number of Coast Guard and civilian ships.
But with the search having not yet found any trace of the worker, the country’s embassy in the US said his family had been notified.
The accident occurred in Vermillion Block 200, around 55miles south of Freshwater Bayou.
“We have been assured by the US Coast Guard that they are searching aggressively for our missing kababayan,” Ambassador Jose Cuisia said. “We hope and pray that they will find him.”
