Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Petroleum has started production at the Ruby gas field in Indonesia.
The company confirmed a stable flow has been established through the export pipeline at the field on schedule.
The $500million project, run in partnership with Total and Inpex South Makassar, is located in the Makassar Strait between the islands of Kalimantan and Sulawesi.
“The project represents the single largest energy investment in Indonesia by a UAE company,” said Mubadala chairman Suhail Al Mazrouei.
“As the first project in Mubadala Petroleum’s global portfolio that, as operator, we have taken through the full upstream cycle, from exploration and appraisal, through development and now into production, it is a significant demonstration of the company’s capabilities.”
Gas from the field is supplied to buyer PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur for use in a fertiliser plant to support the country’s national food security programme.
Development of the field was sanctioned in June 2011, with Mubadala holding a 70% working interest.
About 250 billion cubic feet of gas will be produced for sale to the domestic market over the life of the field.
