South Atlantic oil firm Falklands Oil and Gas has kicked off its final seismic survey before drilling starts next year.
The explorer said 3D survey work had commenced on the Hersilia fan complex, on the northern area of its licences.
Noble Energy is operating the survey, which could take up four months to complete, with fast track data on the two previous surveys underway.
“Upon completion we will have acquired over 10,000 square kilometres of high quality 3D data, which is equivalent in area to over 40 North Sea blocks,” said Falklands chief executive Tim Bushell.
“This illustrates both the scale of our assets and the commitment of the joint venture to the ongoing exploration programme.”
The company is currently processing data from its first two scans, which is expected to be completed by January.
