Turbine maker Repower has launched a new 6.15MW offshore wind turbine to the market.
The Suzlon Group-owned manufacturer today launched the REpower 6.2M152 model, which will stand at up to 110m tall, the turbine has a rotor diameter of 152 metres – the equivalent of more than three football pitches.
A prototype of the new model is being constructed at an onshore site in northern Germany, with completion scheduled for late 2014. Commercial production of the turbine will start in 2015.
“We are the only manufacturer to have already installed more than 100 offshore turbines in the multi-megawatt class,” said chief executive Andreas Nauen.
“With an eye on the outstanding availability and energy yield of the Repower 6.2M126, we have enhanced this robust, proven concept.
“The bigger rotor and correspondingly larger drive train of Repower 6.2M152 combined with tried and tested, first class technology enables our customers to generate energy even more cost-efficiently in the high seas.”
