Statoil says it will not return staff to the Njord A platform evacuated over storm fears at the weekend until it is sure the installation is safe.
The platform, which was shut in last summer following concerns about the integrity of its structure, was cleared of staff on Saturday as weather conditions in the Norwegian Sea deteriorated.
Almost 100 workers on the rig were airlifted to Kristiansund, leaving the platform unmanned.
But with inspection work earlier this year showing support beams needed to be reinforced on the platform before the storm hit, the company said it would wait until the safety of the platform had been confirmed before sending workers back.
“We are working to plan how we eventually will staff the platform again,” Statoil’s Oliver Heradstveit told Aftenbladet.
“This planning work must be done from shore. Among other things, we are keen to do a thorough safety assessment before we send people back.”
