Tullow Oil has made a fifth successful oil discovery as part of its ongoing exploration in Kenya.
The new onshore find, at the onshore Agete-1 exploration well, turned up more than 100m of net oil pay.
It marks the fifth consecutive find by the exploration firm, after discoveries at the Ngamia, Ekales and Twiga South prospects.
Now the operator, which shares the find with Africa Oil, is preparing to carry out flow tests on the Agete discovery to confirm the size.
“A fifth consecutive oil discovery onshore Northern Kenya highlights the emerging world class exploration and production potential within our rift basin acreage,” said Tullow exploration director Angus McCoss.
“An intensive campaign for 2014 includes appraisal and exploration within this first basin and pioneering wells targeting the prospectivity throughout the entire chain of similar rift basins.”
