A survey vessel has been deployed offshore Morocco which will identify the location for the country’s first offshore oil well.
The Tao-1 well, which will kick-off exploration in the offshore Tarfaya Block, is expected to be spudded in the first half of 2014.
It is set to test the Trident prospect which is estimated to hold 423million barrels of recoverable oil at a 50% probability of being produced (P50).
The operator Galp Energia, who farmed into the block with a 50% interest, is currently investigating rig sharing or subletting options.
Tangiers Petroleum and Morocco’s National Bureau of Petroleum and Mines (ONHYM) each hold a 25% interest in the licence.
