The developers of the giant Johan Sverdrup field are set to use Norway’s Mongstad facility to process oil.
The plant, north of Bergen, will receive the oil from the 3billion barre field after being selected over the Sture processing facility.
The partners, including Lundin, Statoil Maersk and Det norske oljeselskap, will look to establish a separate pipeline from the North Sea field after recommending the Mongstad plant.
“This is a positive recommendation that supports Statoil’s ambition of ensuring that the terminal activity leads to profitable oil value chains at Mongstad,” says Arne Sigve Nylund, head of Statoil’s onshore plants.
“The recommendation has been made on the basis of what is the best solution for the Johan Sverdrup field. It is therefore not a decision regarding where the oil is to be refined.”
The project partners have already recommended gas from the field be transported to the Kårstø processing facility near Stavanger, using a new 165km pipeline.
