An appraisal well in the Solsort licence in the Danish North Sea has produced “promising” results, announced field operator Dong Energy.
The firm carried out drilling to evaluate the quality and size of an oil reservoir in the prospect, discovered in 2010.
After reaching a total depth of 3,156m the appraisal well was plugged while the company analyses the findings before proceeding with potential exploration.
“The Solsort licence looks promising,” said Flemming Horn Nielsen, manager of Dong’sDanish business.
“Hopefully, our efforts will eventually lead to new Danish production, but first we are to analyse the findings and decide on the way forward together with our partners,”
Dong, who owns stakes in seven oil-producing fields in the area, is the majority shareholder and operator of the Solsort field.
Bayerngas (30%), Nordsøfonden (20%) and VNG (15%) hold the remaining interest in the licence.
