Oil giant Shell has extended a contract to use technology developed by scientists at Aberdeen University.
Arria NLG said yesterday that the oil firm would continue to use its “natural language engine” on its facilities in the Gulf of Mexico on a month-by-month basis starting in January.
The technology, developed by Aberdeen University spin-out Data2Text, was developed with Shell as one of its first major oil company clients.
The Aberdeen firm was recently acquired by a company called Arria and floated on the London Stock Exchange earlier this month making its founders millionaires.
Professor Ehud Reiter, meterologist Ian Davy and Dr Yaji Sripada all own about 5% of Arria NLG.
The new contract confirmed Shell’s backing of the technology and boosted London-based Arria’s shares by almost 7% to 140p.
