Floating production group BW Offshore has purchased a very large crude carrier (VLCC) for £50.4million.
BW has purchased Blue Opal from Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) – the same company building BP’s Deepsea Aberdeen rig, which sank in a shipyard in South Korea last week.
Blue Opal is a DSME-designed and built VLCC from 2012, weighing in at 320,000 deadweight tonnage.
BW Offshore says it has carried out detailed engineering studies of the vessel since Q4 2012.
The company is now evaluating several floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) projects suitable for the vessel.
