A Briton and a New Zealander were found dead outside an oil complex in western Libya, according to reports from the country.
The pair are believed to have been shot near Mellitah, Libya’s oil and gas terminal co-owned by Eni, 60 miles west of the capital Tripoli.
A Libyan security official said the motive for the killing of the pair was unknown. The bodies were found next to their luggage and none of their belongings were stolen.
There are also reports of a British worker from the Mellitah complex gone missing.
“We are aware of the tragic death of a British national in Libya,” said a UK Foreign Office spokesperson.
The area west of Tripoli has experienced several months of sporadic violence, with the Melittah complex affected a blockade by militias which has shut down the bulk of Libya’s oil production since August.
