Energy industry body Oil and Gas UK has published a new handbook listing a dozen British construction yards in a bid to raise the sector’s profile in home and international markets.
The 80-page UK Offshore Oil and Gas Fabricators Directory lists 12 fabricator companies operating from 18 locations across the country.
Employee count, projects, markets in which the fabricator operates and their capabilities and capacities, such as licences, permissions and warehouse size are all included guide.
“One of Oil & Gas UK’s key strategic priorities is to ensure a long term future for the UK industry supply chain and the fabrication sector is an important part of this,” said the body’s operation’s director, Oonagh Werngren.
“Our indigenous fabricators have the capacity to design and fabricate most aspects of offshore installations such as jackets, decks, modules, subsea manifolds and pipeline bundles.”
The directory will help preserve the UK fabrication sector, reliant on skilled workforce and continuity of commission, believes the chairman of Oil and Gas UK’s Fabricators Forum, Terry Savage.
“To maintain employment for a skilled workforce requires a combination of experience, training and apprenticeships,” Savage said.
“Companies can only make the necessary commitment if they have continuity of business, so winning new orders is vital to sustain this investment in people and facilities.”
