Petrobras has hit a new daily production record from its pre-salt operations after reserves increased by 43% since 2012.
The Brazilian state company said new discoveries in its two pre-salt fields: the Campos and Santos Basins and the drilling of 42 new wells contributed to the increase.
Petrobras reached a new daily record of 390,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) from the company’s pre-salt operations this week following the start of production from the second well on the Cidade de Paraty platform, the in the Lula field, Santos Basin on Monday, which increased the production by 58,000 bopd.
The pre-salt layer extends from the south of the state of Espírito Santo to the state of Santa Catarina, off the south-east coast of the country, and constitutes around a quarter of Petrobras’ reserves today.
In 2014 the company is looking to set a new production record by connecting seventeen new wells to the existing Santos Basin platforms as well as putting two new platforms on stream connected to further five new wells in 2014.
It is also looking at starting up three new potential prospects in the Santos Basin.
