An Aberdeen-based software developer for the energy industry has extended its partnership with a Russian consortium by a bespoke health and safety training programme.
Sakhalin Energy – a consortium for developing the Sakhalin II oil and gas project in the Russian Okhotsk Sea – has implemented Petrotechnics’ Train the Trainer certification, focused on internal risk management and safety systems’ competency.
The course aims to improve workforce safety from the inside, by developing the competence of in-house trainers, which allows for reduction in safety training costs, Petrotechnics claim.
“Having strong in-house safety expertise is about establishing the basis for a sustainable competitive advantage built on safety and efficiency,” said Simon Jones, head of projects at Petrotechnics.
“Our Train the Trainer programme was designed to enable the agile and consistent delivery of hazard awareness and control of work courses to large numbers of individuals without the cost or dependence of external suppliers.”
Three Sakhalin Energy employees have already successfully completed the certification for Integrated Safe System of Work (ISSOW) and Permit to Work Essentials courses, the company reported.
“Educating and training our personnel becomes less of a challenge and we’re able to empower individuals for maximum performance on demand, now that we have certified trainers available and on-site,” said Evgeny Nazarov, senior operations HSE engineer at Sakhalin Energy.
The safety programme comes as part of a six-year-long partnership between the two sides, which previously included delivery of a permit to work integration software in Russian for a seven-digit sum.
