Engineering group Amec has scooped a near-$1billion deal to provide support for the lucrative second stage of the giant Shah Deniz gas field.
The $974million (£586million) deal will see Amec’s consortium with Azfen and Tekfen covering project and construction management for fabricating, loading and hooking up of topside units for the two stage two platforms.
The £17billion trans-European gas project, which was given the go-ahead last month, will see two new gas pipelines being built to pump up to 16billion cubic metres of gas each year from Azerbaijan to customers across the continent.
Amec’s consortium will also be involved in the fabricating and commissioning of both the production and risers platform, and the quarters and utilities unit, with both topsides being built at the consortium’s yard near Baku.
“Winning this excellent contract supports our growth strategy and comes as a result of our successful and safe delivery of projects in this region for BP-operated projects,” said Amec chief executive Samir Brikho.
“I am proud of our commitment to the region and the contribution we have made to the growth of Azerbaijan’s national oil industry.”
It marks the third major topside project for the consortium, which is due to start work on the project later this month. Completion is due in 2018.
