Brazilian oil operations still have much to learn from their North Sea counterparts in maintaining projects, a leading oil figure from the country believes.
Brazilian deep water and pre-salt projects have attracted significant interest from oil majors in recent years, opening up the door for firms to move into the market.
But while some companies have struggled to adapt to the business requirements of the Brazilian oil industry, opportunities remain to draw on the vast expertise in technology and infrastructure the North Sea has produced.
“You have the best way to produce the equipment,” said Carlos Camerini, of Brazil’s oil industry body ONIP, told Energy Voice at the Subsea Expo.
“We don’t have a ROV factory in Brazil. It’s crazy.
“Nowadays the big suppliers, they want to have suppliers near them.
“The North Sea is far in advance of Brazil, in the inspection and repairing. So this is a kind of technology we are interested in.”
