A growing number of families are turning to independent education because they realise it’s more than just league tables and exam results. It goes far deeper than just preparing children for academic excellence; it enables them to connect.
International School Aberdeen (ISA) welcomes children aged 3 – 18, with a mission to help them find their place in the world.
The school is situated within a purpose-built campus on North Deeside Road on the outskirts of the city and has a student population of almost 550 students, with half coming from the UK and the other 50% comprised of 45 different nationalities.
ISA’s student population has increased year on year as it continues its pledge to create positive learning environments with a sense of inclusion and belonging at its core.
ISA nurtures the local talent that exists right here on our doorstep in the Granite City, supporting the next generation to be resilient and adaptable; a generation that welcomes life-long learning and is ready to embrace change.
ISA is proud of its international identity and equally as proud of its strong roots in Aberdeen, set in the heart of the energy transition and the meeting point between local, national and global agendas.
Since the opening of the school in Aberdeen in 1972, ISA has continued to attract world-class educators who maintain a global approach to education with a focus on contemporary teaching and learning methods.
Nick Little, Head of School, ISA, says he feels privileged to work in a progressive and inclusive school environment: “As educators we are building connections with young people and their families, and you feel like you are helping to shape the future.
“At ISA, there are so many opportunities to be a force for change and I’m extremely grateful to be able to make a positive impact on the lives of young people as the next generation and the workforce of the future.”
Predicting future trends and preparing for a more technologically advanced world means schools must keep pace by changing from the ground up. Wider societal changes in the last 30 to 40 years have also influenced ISA’s teaching methods that have evolved to fit 21st century mindsets.
“We’re becoming a much more multicultural society as a whole, and a global city such as Aberdeen attracts people and businesses from around the world with a much more culturally diverse population than when our school first opened back in the 1970s,” says Nick.
“Children today are changing too as technology continues to advance and, as a school, we sit at the forefront of preparing children for a very different world to the one we see today.”
Students at ISA are educated and nurtured in a collaborative culture, embraced by teachers, children and parents alike, as ISA works together as a community to create opportunities for all young people to develop a growth mindset for future success.
However, it’s important to remember that most academic growth will come from a child feeling safe and included.
At the top of the list for families choosing a school is almost always the level of care their child will receive to support their learning and wellbeing.
The dedication of ISA teachers in creating a supportive ethos of nurture and achievement was hailed as ‘outstanding’ in a report published earlier this year by Education Scotland, following a school-wide inspection.
The report abounds with positive statements with teachers commended for ‘providing rich and dynamic learning experiences that promote diversity and celebrate internationalism’, describing ISA as a school where ‘children, young people and adults feel valued and included.”
“Since the first day ISA opened its doors over half a century ago, we have continued to adapt and move with the times,” continues Nick.
“Yet one thing that endures is our quality of teaching and an unwavering commitment to student wellbeing, which sits at the heart of everything we stand for as a local school with a global outlook geared towards helping our students build strong foundations for future success.”
Visiting ISA is the best way to explore the school and all it has to offer your child.
