APR Energy has landed a landmark contract to provide power to more than six million people in Myanmar.
The contract marks the first power generation agreement signed by a US-based company and the Myanmar government since the lifting of sanctions in 2013.
APR is contracted to provide 82MW of electricity, however the new plant will have capacity to deliver up to 100MW.
The plant, featuring mobile gas power modules, is due to be commissioned in the second quarter of this year.
“Today, three-quarters of Myanmar’s population is without access to electricity,” said APR chief executive John Campion.
“This contract will create one of the biggest thermal plants in the country, enabling the provision of light and power to more than six million people.
“Together with our recent installation of 130MW of new power generation in Indonesia, the Myanmar project is a great example of the real traction we are seeing in the Asia Pacific region since opening our Malaysia hub and Singapore commercial office.”
