Oil industry services provider Petrofac has picked up a second major deal in the Middle East after landing a £2.3billion joint venture in Kuwait.
The contract, which will see Petrofac take a more than £1billion share, sees the firm link up with Korea’s Samsung Engineering and Dutch firm CB&I to provide engineering, procurement and construction work on 19 new refining units at the Mina Abdulla refinery.
The project is part of Kuwait’s investent to upgrade its Mina Abdulla and Mina Al Ahmadi refineries and bring them to around 800,000 barrels per day output.
“This will be our ninth project in Kuwait and I am delighted we have secured the opportunity to work with KNPC, who is a new customer for us,” said Petrofac onshore managing director Subramanian Sarma.
The deal comes just weeks after Petrofac picked up a £1.3billion deal to provide EPC services for a refinery project in Oman.
