Dana Petroleum has marked a safety milestone with the launch of its floating production storage offloading vessel for the Western Isles project.
The hull launch for the vessel, which will serve the £1billion project, came as the project celebrated more than 1.5million man hours without incident at the COSCO shipyard in Qidong, China.
Construction of the hull has been going on for a year.

“Western Isles is a key project for our future growth ambitions as we aim to significantly grow our production,” said Dana’s UK managing director Paul Griffin
“The safe and successful launch of the FPSO hull stands us in good stead for the year ahead.”
The $1.6billion project will see Dana and project partner Cieco developing the Harris and Barra fields around 160km east of Shetland.
It is expected to produce around 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day once it comes online next year.
