Global oil services group Petrofac has landed a £720million contract for work at BP’s Khazzan gas field in Oman.
The £10billion project will be one of the region’s largest tight gas developments, with around 300 wells set to be drilled across the field over the next fifteen years.
The British supermajor has previously said the field will produce 1billion cubic feet of gas and 25,000 barrels of gas condensate per day – around a third of Oman’s total daily requirements.
Petrofac will carry out the engineering, procurement and construction work for the central processing facility at the field.
The facility will include two process trains, each with a capacity to handle 525 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
The project, which is set to be completed in 2017, also includes an associated condensate processing system, power generation plant, water treatment system and all associated utilities and infrastructure.
Petrofac said the project was its eight SPC contract in the country, following on from the £1.3billion contract win in November for the Sohar refinery improvement project.
“Consistent with our commitment to developing Omani in-country value whilst also providing opportunity for local content wherever we work, we will also seek to do so for the duration of this contract via the supply chain and recruitment of local resources,” said managing director Subramanian Sarma.
