The major North Sea energy players should look for collaborations with smaller technology firms to address their operational woes on the UK Continental Shelf, insists a leading industry figure.
Oil & Gas UK operations director Oonagh Werngren told Energy Voice partnerships allowed small industry innovators to show their potential and grab the attention of senior oil and gas figures.
“We’ve been able to bring a broader membership to the conference and to raise awareness with them of both what ITF is all about but also to allow the 70 small companies that are here today to talk about their technology and give them a voice that senior people in the industry can actually listen to,” Werngren said.
The body has for the first time taken over patronage of the annual ITF Technology Showcase and Conference this year as it seeks to overturn the decline in exploration and increased costs of North Sea operations.
Speakers at the event agreed technological collaboration was a required step forward to help recuperate the UK industry, in line with Sir Ian Wood’s recommendations in last week’s review of the UKCS’ future.
