Dutch energy supplier Eneco has bought over the Burn of Whilk windfarm west of Wick as the company grows its Scottish presence.
The firm is looking to start the 22.5MW nine-turbine project by late spring, to be completed by mid-2015, and has pledged a £5,000 fund per MW per year to the local community for the lifetime of the project.
The acquisition extends Eneco’s portfolio in the Scottish Highlands, where it already operates the 69MW Lochluichart windfarm and is constructing the 60MW Moy facility. It has recently opened an operational base at Dochfour, near Inverness.
“The Burn of Whilk windfarm represents a further significant investment for Eneco in the Scottish Highlands that will generate local opportunities and investment,” said Guy Madgwick, Eneco UK director.
“Like our other wind farms near Garve and in Aberdeenshire, we want to be a good neighbour and very much look forward to working with the local community to ensure that we achieve this.”
