Seven men and an eighth injured after a gas explosion at a coal mine in eastern Ukraine.
More than 50 miners were working at a depth of 1,300m when the accident occurred at the Skochinsky mine in Donetsk.
Ukraine’s acting President Oleksandr Turchynov held a minute’s silence at the parliament to commemorate the accident, with investigators having opened an inquiry into the cause.
Ukraine’s energy minister Yuri Prodan was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying poor safety precautions were to blame.
