Oilfield services group Expro has landed a major contract to support one of Europe’s largest gas projects.
The wellflow management specialists will provide completion equipment and services for installing the subsea wells on the Shah Deniz 2 project in Azerbaijan.
The £60million deal marks one of the Aberdeen-based firm’s largest European contracts to date.
“This additional contract allows Expro to establish further infrastructure and personnel in Baku, to enhance our local presence,” said Expro region director Keith Palmer.
“This in turn will also allow Expro to promote and provide other products and services to our client base in this area.”
The £17billion BP-led proect will see two major gas pipelines to carry output from the giant field off the Azeri coast to European customers.
It will produce 16billion cubic metres of gas per year and transport it more than 3500km to customers across Central Europe, along with a further 120,000 barrels of condensate.
BP will work with Azeri state oil firm SOCAR, Total, Lukoil, NICO, TPAO and Statoil on the Shah Deniz project, with other partners involved in the pipeline work.
Expro’s five-year deal will see them providing landing string assembly and control systems to improve safety and allow a quick shutdown at the high pressure gas wells on the field.
“This contract further strengthens Expro’s relationship with BP through the provision of our ELSA landing string technologies,” said Mr Palmer.
