Caspian-focused explorer Tethys has been given a boost after finding gas for the third time this year.
The Kazakhstan discovery, around 5km south west of the firm’s previous find in the region, looks set to yield good results after analysis showed it could hold substantially more reserves than the company’s previous find.
The nearby AKK15 well tested at around 7million cubic feet of gas a day, with early data showing the new find has higher flow rates.
“This is a very good result and log indications would suggest we could test the well significantly in excess of the flow achieved from the AKK15 well,” said Tethys chief operating officer Graham Wall.
“We now have three successes from the first three wells in this year’s shallow gas programme and continues to validate our geological model with further wells planned on similar targets in the vicinity.”
The project is the latest in a ten-well programme for the region.
