Leni Gas & Oil’s Trinidad venture has paid off.
The operator revealed ‘better than expected’ results, after the well was drilled to more than 4,000 feet.
The GY-664 was drilled to a total depth of 4,212 feet and has intersected with approximately 100 feet of the Lower Cruse Sandstone – the company’s second primary target in the Trinidad discovery.
The first Goudron well in 30 years found a total gross sand thickness of 1,300 feet estimate in the Goudron, Gros Morne and Lower Cruse formations.
LGO will now move its drilling focus to the next redevelopment well as GY-664 awaits casing and testing.
“The first of our programme of 30 new development wells, GY-664, has gone even better than expected and we have drilled over 1,300 feet of gross sand with numerous producible intervals,” said Neil Ritson, LGO chief executive.
“Once logging is complete we will be able to determine the oil production potential of all the reservoir intervals and the well will be completed for production.”
LGO became the sole owner of the site in October 2012. Since then production increased from around 40 barrels of oil per day (bopd) to 300 bopd and the company has sold more than 100,000 barrels of Gourdron oil in that time.
