Lord Cullen of Whitekirk, the author of a report into the Piper Alpha disaster, officially opened Atkins’ newest office in Aberdeen city centre.
The company celebrated the merge of its two separate offices into one at the Kirkgate House building with an evening reception, featuring speeches by Lord Cullen, the company’s chief executive, Uwe Krueger, and managing director for energy, Martin Grant, addressing around 100 Atkins’ employees and guests.
The Aberdeen office, which will accommodate around 150 staff from the firm’s current offices in Golden Square and The Exchange, was one of the most difficult global locations to secure for business purposes, Grant said.
In his speech Lord Cullen referred to the findings of his report and stressed the importance to communicate the safety learnings from past tragic events to the newcomers into the industry.
