Russia and China have failed to agree a £400billion deal over gas supply.
It’s the latest installment in a decade-long attempt to land a long-term gas supply contract for state-owned Gazprom.
President Vladimir Putin had travelled to China to agree the deal which was expected to be finalised today.
The move came after a political stand-off in Ukraine and a poor European appetite for Russian gas hampered export potential closer to home.
Putin was looking to capitalise on eager Asian markets, but the two reportedly did not agree on the final price tag for gas supply to China.
However, Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the set-back didn’t end the discussions. He hinted both parties would get back round the table in a bid to finally settle the terms.
