Energy sector’s key figures spoke of their “shock” and “disappointment” following the news All-Energy conference would move to Glasgow for the next three years – and be substituted by a brand new event.
The Press and Journal’s Energy editor Jeremy Cresswell told Energy Voice that the Aberdeen-born conference has had a huge influence on driving engagement between the cutting-edge oil and gas supply chain and the renewables sector in the UK.
But the arrival of a new conference by Aberdeen Renewables Energy Group (AREG) has the potential to fill the newly created void in the city’s renewables agenda, he added.
“Make an opportunity out of adversity is exactly what Aberdeen is going to do – and good on them,” he said.
Gordon McIntosh, director for enterprise, planning and infrastructure at the Aberdeen City Council who announced the new conference on day one of All-Energy 2014, said: “When we started the pathway down to renewables, we clearly identified that an annual conference and exhibition to focus the industry on our doorstep is very important.”
