Solar modules manufacturer Hanergy Solar has become the official energy partner of Formula E.
The new racing series, launching in September this year, will feature fully electric cars competing on 10 city-centre street circuits around the world.
For the inaugural Beijing ePrix, Hanergy will install a customised rapid deployment solar power system, based on the firm’s thin-film solar technology, to provide part of the energy required for the race.
The aim of the new series is to appeal to the new generation of motorsport fans while promoting sustainability and clean energy initiatives, claim the sport’s organisers.
“We expect Formula E not only to bring excitement but also serve as a platform for R&D (research and development) of electric vehicles,” said Alejandro Agag, Formula E chief executive.
“We are impressed by the advantages of the thin-film solar technology of Hanergy Solar and our partnership will be instrumental in promoting electric vehicles and the use of sustainable and efficient electric energy.
“It will also raise awareness of environmental protection and will thus be conducive to the sustainability of the community.”
