Austrian energy firm OMV has today celebrated the official opening of its Mehar gas and condensate processing facilities in Pakistan.
The country’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the plant on the concession which came on stream by the end of last year and is expected to produce around 4,300 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2014.
OMV, which generates more than 10% of Pakistan’s national gas supply, took over the licence in 2011 via an acquisition of the entire share capital of Petronas Carigali.
The development included drilling of an additional well, completion of three production wells and the construction of a central gas and condensate processing plant in Mehar.
“This is an encouraging day for Pakistan’s gas supply and will have a further positive impact on OMV production,” said Jaap Huijskes, OMV executive director for exploration and production in Islamabad.
“OMV has been committed to Pakistan for more than two decades and invested together with its joint venture partners approximately $2billion.
“I am delighted that the Government of Pakistan has been implementing measures to accelerate domestic developments and by that enable additional domestic energy supply to the people and the economy of Pakistan.”
