Australian oil firm Woodside Petroleum has found gas in the Exmouth sub-basin, offshore Western Australia.
The Toro-1 exploration well in permit WA-430-P, located within 22 kilometres of Woodside’s existing Ragnar-1A discovery, was drilled to the total depth of 3724 metres.
Subsequent testing confirmed the presence of a gas column within the Mungaroo Formation target, at approximately 150 metres gross gas and 65 metres net gas.
The well will now be plugged and abandoned as planned, the company said.
“This successful exploration outcome builds Woodside’s gas volumes within the Exmouth sub-basin creating options for maximising the value of our Australian assets,” said Philip Loader, Woodside executive vice president of global exploration.
Woodside is the operator with 70% interest of the WA-430-P. Mitsui E&P Australia owns the remaining 30% equity.
